Tibetan Singing Bowl, Brown - 5.5"

Handmade in Nepal
Wooden Puja included

This Tibetan singing bowl is 5.5 inches wide at its center, 5 inches wide at the rim, and 3 inches tall.

Singing Bowls produce the sacred sound of AUM.  Their sonic vibrations alter space, time, and mind.  It has been found that most bowls vibrate within the range of 8 to 12 Hertz.  The same range as Alpha Brain Waves.  These are the very frequencies created by people in profound states of meditation or contemplation.  The sound resonating from these singing bowls is pure and very powerful in centering the mind and body.

Unlike some of the more familiar Tibetan instruments whose uses are well documented, there is nothing written about the singing bowls even though they have been found in both monasteries and private homes.  Some accounts actually state that it is forbidden, even within monasteries, to talk about the bowls and that the highest lamas used them in secret rituals to travel to other dimensions.

There are two basic ways of playing a singing bowl.  Resting the bowl upon the palm of your hand, you can either strike it with a mallet for percussive pulsating tones or you can rub around the edge with the wooden wand (puja) for a sustained effect.  The pressure that you use to apply the wand onto the rim of the bowl will affect the sounds the bowl produces as also the speed with which you rotate the wand.  Too much or too little pressure or the wrong speed will cause a rattling sound that most people dislike.
